HOPE STORE: The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter has a HOPE Store open in the lobby of its headquarters, at 6135 N. Black Canyon Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85015. The HOPE Store is operating from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. It has a variety of items, including first aid kits; disaster preparedness kits; solar-powered, hand-crank radios; office supplies; travel mugs; books; hats; T-shirts; lanyards; and pins.

MORE MERCHANDISE: Looking for a new Red Cross shirt or that hard-to-find Red Cross pin? Volunteers can order Red Cross merchandise at www.arcmerchandise.com. Use coupon code “2013VOLUNTEER” for a 10 percent discount. Valid through May 17.

UPCOMING DPE FOR DAT VOLUNTEERS: The Grand Canyon Chapter will conduct a disaster preparedness education presentation for its Disaster Action Team members at 6:30 p.m. May 29 at its headquarters. No registration is necessary.

FIRST AID/CPR/AED CLASS: The Grand Canyon Chapter will hold an adult first aid/CPR/AED course that includes bloodborne pathogens from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 31 at its headquarters. The class will teach participants to care for a variety of first aid problems, such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, heat and cold emergencies and head, neck and back injuries. It also will enable them to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in victims 12 years and older. Students who complete the course will get certificates that are valid for two years. AMERICORPS MEMBERS NEEDED: The Grand Canyon Chapter is accepting applications for AmeriCorps National Preparedness and Response Corps members, with a focus on disaster preparedness, response and recovery, community outreach and volunteer support. Members will complete projects that enhance organizational service delivery, expand community resources and help Arizona residents prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Applicants must be high school graduates who are at least 18, and their own vehicle is highly recommended. The service term lasts from Aug. 5, 2013 to July 4, 2014. ICE CREAM FOR A GOOD CAUSE: The Grand Canyon Chapter needs your help to support Trace Adkins in this week’s Celebrity Apprentice challenge. Visit Walgreens to buy Adkins’ specially designed Delish ice cream, called Maple Macadamia Mash Up. If Adkins wins the Celebrity Apprentice, it’s an extra $100,000 for the Red Cross!

If you’re a disaster relief responder, it’s imperative that your legal name is listed in the “My Profile” section in the legal name fields, as this is required for deployment so that travel arrangements may be made on your behalf by national. Also, make sure to update your deployment availability in the “DR Availability” portion of the “My Profile” section.
