TACOMA, Washington, October 19, 2012 — While military deployments and hospital stays may keep many of our nation’s heroes away from their families this holiday season, the American Red Cross is collecting and distributing cards that send words of encouragement, gratitude and cheer.
Between October 19 and December 7, Americans can give something that means something by sending a card of thanks and support to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
“It just takes a moment to sign a card to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the military and their families make every day,” said Tracy Peacock, Mount Rainier Chapter Executive. “You say thanks, we’ll do the rest.”
The Red Cross invites the public to send cards of thanks and holiday cheer, postmarked no later than December 7th to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Cards may also be dropped off at the Mount Rainier Chapter office, located at 1235 South Tacoma Way.
The public is invited to participate in any of the community card signing events;
Individuals are asked to refrain from sending “care packages,” monetary donations, using glitter or any other kinds of insert with the cards, or placing card in an envelope. Prior to distribution, cards will be screened for content and hazardous materials by Pitney Bowes Inc. For more information, please go to redcross.org/holidaymail.
