Robert P. Balles, a retired college mathematics instructor, retired businessman and currently a private investor, is a generous philanthropist for several local organizations and schools. For the fifth year, he will match gifts made to the American Red Cross Monterey Bay Area Chapter through the end of 2012 up to a total of $3,400.
Bob gives this gift each year in loving memory and honor of his parents, William and Marie Balles. In particular, Robert’s mother worked for decades as a volunteer in fundraising drives for the American Red Cross in New York City. Bob Balles hopes to encourage others in the community to find the joy of giving back to others.
It is only through financial contributions that the local Chapter can help the residents of Monterey and San Benito Counties prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies of all sizes. In Fiscal Year 2011-2012, the American Red Cross Monterey Bay Area Chapter responded to 37 local disasters which constitutes of 2,328 volunteers contributing their time to respond to those disasters. 1,000 individuals have been taught preparedness skills and 3,863 people have been trained in CPR, AED, first aid, and water safety skills.
Make your donation go further this year by having it matched!
