Northern New York Chapter Co-Hosts "Zombie Preparedness" Class

Zombir Class
About 25 Children from Military Families Learn How to Prepare for a Disaster

On April 6, The American Red Cross Northern New York Chapter and the VETS Peer to Peer Outreach Center in Watertown co-hosted a “Zombie Disaster Preparedness” event for about 25 children from military families.

Using a “Zombie Apocalypse” theme and games to engage the children, and instructor Shawna Rich explained in a fun way how to prepare for a disaster and what the children needed to keep in their disaster preparedness kits.

Rich is an AmeriCorps member, and fellow AmeriCorps member and American Red Cross volunteer Megan Fulton and Red Cross Emergency Services Manager Kelly Hecker also attended the event. In addition to developing a stronger partnership with the Peer to Peer Outreach Center, the event fulfilled the Red Cross’ Services to the Armed Forces’ mission by providing community outreach to current and past service members and their families.
