A donation of more than $12,500 from Oracle to the American Red Cross will support Red Cross health and safety training in the Stamford Public Schools.
The funds will support training in First Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and use of AEDs (automated external defibrillators). The training has been offered in the Stamford high schools as part of health instruction for several years, but these funds will extend the program to more schools and will provide for new equipment and instructional materials, said American Red Cross Corporate Solution Account Manager Lori DelVaglio.
“Oracle’s gift will allow us to provide more training and necessary materials to complete proper health and safety training,” DelVaglio said. “We are grateful to Oracle for their help to increase the access of training that will make the Stamford Public School students safer at home, at school and at play by empowering these students with the skills and confidence to save a life.”
The funding will also help expand the training currently offered to the new Academy of Information Technology and Engineering High School, as well as to the Stamford middle schools, which did not previously have the program.
“Oracle works to improve the quality of life in the communities in which it does business through a combination of grants and volunteer support. We are proud to work with the Red Cross to support health and safety training in Stamford schools,” said Colleen Cassity, Executive Director, Oracle Education Foundation, Oracle Giving and Oracle Volunteers.
In Fiscal Year 2012, the Red Cross taught nearly 260,000 Connecticut residents how to protect themselves and their families or to help others in an emergency through classes in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, Babysitter Training, Community Disaster Education programs and more. DelVaglio said that, “We know that Red Cross training works and we know it can save lives. We thank the Stamford School system for having the vision to provide life safety training in so many schools and we thank Oracle for helping to make that possible.”
