Thousands of school officials, teachers and students in the Parkway School District are now better prepared to respond to emergencies. The District is a new member of the American Red Cross Ready Rating™ Program.
All schools in the District as well as the Parkway Early Childhood Center, Administration Building and Facilities and Transportation Department are part of the program. Deputy Superintendent Desi Kirchhofer, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Chelsea Watson, and Manager of Health Services Lisa Harnacker all played a role in helping the District become an official member.
“As a Parkway alum, I am so proud the District has taken the steps to become a member of our Ready Rating™ Program,” said Cindy Erickson, CEO of the American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region. “We are looking forward to helping Parkway become better prepared for disasters and emergencies in the future.”
"We are pleased to partner with the Red Cross to help Parkway prepare for emergencies," said Dr. Keith Marty, Superintendent of the Parkway School District. "The Ready Rating™ program gives us a step-by-step process for evaluating our preparedness levels so we can keep students and staff safe in an emergency."
The Ready Rating™ Program is a free, self-guided program that allows members to determine their level of preparedness through a 1-2-3, online self-assessment tool. Members learn tips and best practices to help guide them through an emergency and how to help others become prepared as well. Members also receive the Ready Rating™ Membership Seal, making their efforts toward emergency preparedness more visible. Additionally, the Red Cross can provide a number of services to members in order to enhance their emergency preparedness efforts.
Recent research shows that more than half of Americans say they don’t feel prepared for an everyday emergency, let alone a catastrophe, but 82 percent of Americans agree “if someone could make it easy for me to be prepared, I’d do it.”
For more than 125 years, the American Red Cross has been rooted in the belief that people need to help each other when disaster strikes. Through the Ready Rating™ Program, as well as supplemental education and training courses, the Red Cross can continue to help our communities become better prepared for emergencies.
The American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region is a proud member agency of the United Way, which makes significant investments every year in Red Cross services.
