Red Cross is assisting victims of a 24-unit apartment complex fire in midtown Anchorage. The devastating fire happened before 9am on January 3rd. Red Cross volunteers responded immediately on-scene to help displaced residents and canteen water and food for firefighters battling the blaze.
A shelter was opened with the city for the families who lost their homes, with warm meals being served. Red Cross is working with victims to replace critical items, help with longer-term housing needs, and offer counseling through this difficult time.
The best way to help these families is a direct financial donation to the American Red Cross of Alaska. To get your workplace involved in a campaign, contact Jess.Rude@redcross.org .
We are working with partner agencies to ensure all needs are met for these victims who have lost everything. Physical items are being accepted by Pathways Center at 639 West International Airport Road on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday between 12-5pm. Their phone number is (907) 770-5007.
