SANTA ANA, Calif. – Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to prevent earthquakes. We can, however, be prepared for when they strike. Being prepared now could save your life, or the lives of others, in the future.
In effort to be ready for when the next quake strikes, the Red Cross recommends participating in The Great ShakeOut on October 18th at 10:18 a.m. The ShakeOut is an annual event created to practice safety and planning for earthquakes. For more on how to participate, or safety planning tools, visit shakeout.org.
In addition, the Red Cross now offers a free Earthquake App, available for iPhone and Android. This app includes earthquake notifications, what to do during and after an earthquake, and how to get prepared.
At a minimum, the American Red Cross recommends taking the steps listed below. More detailed information and preparedness guides can be found on RedCross.org.
