The American Red Cross is now recruiting volunteers certified in CPR/First Aid to work at one of 13 first aid stations that will line the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade route. Under the supervision of the Pasadena Fire Department, the American Red Cross provides all first aid services for the Tournament of Roses Parade, as well as events preceding and following the parade, including the Rose Bowl game.
More than 150 Red Cross volunteers, including Emergency Responders, EMTs, paramedics, nurses and doctors, are needed each year to staff the parade and other events. First aid stations are designed to provide immediate, temporary care for injuries and sudden illnesses. Patients who need more advanced care are referred to Pasadena Fire Department paramedics for treatment and transport to area hospitals. Approximately 700,000 people attend the parade each year. During the 2012 parade, nearly 85 visitors needed Red Cross assistance.
The Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter coordinates all first aid stations and volunteer recruitment for the Los Angeles Region. For information about becoming a Rose Parade first aid volunteer, please contact Roxanne Schorbach at Roxanne.Schorbach@redcross.org.
