American Red Cross disaster responders were at a three-alarm fire that tore through three buildings on Beach Avenue in the Bronx the morning of Dec. 31. Tragically, the massive blaze took the lives of a young boy and two senior citizens.

The Red Cross workers, including mental-health volunteers, met with displaced residents at the scene. There they provided emotional support to 30 adults and six children, as well as emergency housing and funds for food and clothing for four families of 13 adults and one child. Three additional adults also received emergency funds for replacement food and clothing. Mental health workers also provided comfort to the family of those deceased.
