Red Cross Holds Disaster Shelter Simulation in Greenville

The purpose of the simulation is to provide participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities required to operate a successful shelter.

As we approach the busiest time of hurricane season, the Red Cross continues to prepare for what the Atlantic has in store for us. On Saturday, August 4, the Pitt County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Disaster Shelter Simulation at the National Guard Armory in Greenville, NC from 10am-1pm. The purpose of the simulation is to provide participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities required to operate a successful shelter.

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to–
  • Demonstrate shelter opening, operating and closing procedures.
  • Identify and use available resources to assist shelter workers.
  • Work as a team to provide quality shelter services to clients.
  • Address common shelter problems effectively.
  • The shelter simulation is open to registered Red Cross volunteers and staff who have completed the prerequisite courses and will be working on shelter operations teams in their community. Community members are encouraged to become a Red Cross volunteer and get registered for upcoming disaster training.
