Red Cross Holds Disaster Training in Durango

Durango, CO – Wednesday, April 22. 2015 – The American Red Cross of Colorado will host a disaster training academy April 25 and 26 at the Red Cross office located at 1922 Main St., Durango, Colo.

The training academy will provide a variety of disaster response training for new and experienced Red Cross volunteers that will give them the tools they need to respond to local and regional emergencies. It serves as an excellent opportunity for people to become part of the world’s largest humanitarian organization and to give back to their community.

Red Cross volunteers will be trained in topics like, Disaster Public Affairs, Government Operations, Logistics, Psychological First Aid, Sheltering, Disaster Health Services, Community Partner Services and Disaster Action Team services. These courses provide basic and advanced tools for disaster response.

“We want our volunteers to have the latest information,” said Bill Werner, Disaster Program Manager for southern Colorado. “This training will be an excellent refresher for our experienced volunteers and a good introduction for new people.”

The Red Cross relies on the strength of its volunteers to provide disaster response and is always looking to recruit new members.
