After a raging fire that broke out on Main Street in Port Washington the afternoon of March 14, the American Red Cross opened a reception center at the Port Washington train station to assist those displaced by the blaze. The center transitioned to a shelter last night, and provided a safe haven for those affected, who received food, beverages, health services and emotional support. Thirty adults and six children overnighted at the shelter, which remains open today.
