Red Cross Pre-positions Supplies, Urges South Miss. to Prepare

Red Cross volunteers and staff have been working diligently over the past week to pre-position supplies and equipment.

JACKSON, MISS., SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2013 – The American Red Cross Mississippi Region is prepared for Tropical Storm Karen and is encouraging South Mississippians to take personal preparedness steps do the same.

“Red Cross volunteers and staff have been working diligently over the past week to pre-position supplies, equipment and personnel in preparation for Tropical Storm Karen,” said Joshua Joachim, Chief Operations Officer for the Mississippi Region. “We are continuing to work with local emergency managers and community partners, and are on standby to open shelters if needed.” Currently, none are scheduled to open.

Red Cross is encouraging coast residents and visitors alike to make a plan, stay informed and download the free Red Cross hurricane app for mobile devices. The free app, can be used on both iPhone and Android platforms and is available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross. National Red Cross experts in health, safety and preparedness have thoroughly reviewed and field tested the information and advice provided in this app.
