Volunteers and staff at the Minot chapter of the American Red Cross received a special vistor recently. National Red Cross President & CEO Gail McGovern stopped by to chat as the chapter prepared for another day of mobile feeding in Minot. The feeding is a part of the ‘Rebuild Minot’ project that the Red Cross is supporting for the second straight year.
Volunteers are providing meals and snacks for those citizens that continue to rebuild homes after flooding in the summer of 2011 occurred.
McGovern was impressed by the efforts of the chapter in the community and stated, “It was truly a treat to get to know Allan, and see first-hand all that he and his volunteers have done for the community. My daughter-in-law was so moved, she volunteered to help in the chapter.”
McGovern was in town visiting her step-son, who is station at the Minot Air Force Base.
“She walked into the office and was so polite, personable, and caring,” said Mid-Dakota Chapter Executive, Allan McGeough.
McGovern spent time touring the city with her family and looking at the re-building efforts in Minot.
“She saw first-hand that there is still a lot of work to be done,” McGeough added. “She was proud how the Red Cross continues to aid in the recovery efforts and that meant a lot to all of us.”
