Red Cross Recognizes Partners During National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize, thank and celebrate everyday heroes across the country.

The American Red Cross is grateful for the generous and selfless support of the thousands of volunteers across the country, many of whom are employees of corporate partners, to accomplish its mission. These partners encourage employees to engage in local communities by supporting the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, blood drives, disaster response efforts and other programs throughout the country.

The Red Cross is thankful for all of its corporate partners’ support, especially the companies below that have deepened their partnership by encouraging employees to make an impact in the communities where they live and work.

Nationwide Insurance

Throughout National Volunteer Week, Nationwide Insurance will host a variety of service activities around its new Red Cross bloodmobile, including blood drives. Nationwide Insurance is one of the largest corporate blood donors, donating more than 16,000 units of blood to the Red Cross in 2014. The corporation also donated more than $1 million last year to support the Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) and has purchased a total of eight new bloodmobiles throughout the partnership.

Residence Inn

Residence Inn and its employees have been dedicated to supporting Red Cross volunteer efforts over the past year. During the company’s General Manager’s Conference in February, more than 600 employees from across the country assembled 3,000 comfort kits, which were distributed throughout the country to help alleviate the pain of families displaced by disasters.

Swiss Re

As a signature sponsor of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, Swiss Re is part of an unprecedented nationwide effort to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the United States by 25 percent. Swiss Re employees were part of canvassing efforts in local communities to replace and test smoke alarms in homes and participated in the Ready When The Time Comes training, Operation Hope seminars and CPR training. Other volunteer efforts included assembling comfort kits, hosting blood drives and employee fundraising efforts in which monetary donations were matched by the Swiss Re Foundation.
