Red Cross Responds Apartment Fire in West Ashley

Red Cross Helps 32 Residents affected by West Ashley Apartment Fire.
The Red Cross provided each person with financial assistance to purchase food, clothing and other emergency items, referrals to partner agencies and comfort kits, which include basic hygiene items.

The local American Red Cross met the immediate needs of 32 people, including 23 adults and 9 children, affected by a 16 unit apartment fire at the Moss Creek Apartments in West Ashley.

The Red Cross provided each person with financial assistance to purchase food, clothing and other emergency items, referrals to partner agencies and comfort kits, which include basic hygiene items. The Red Cross also provided temporary lodging to three adults and one child.

On average the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. Since the beginning of the fiscal year, July 1, 2012, the Palmetto SC Region has responded to the needs of 1,419 families, helping a total of 4,632 adults and children affected by disaster.

The Carolina Lowcountry Chapter serves Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties and is part of the Palmetto SC Region of the American Red Cross. The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross Chapters that span 35-counties of South Carolina.
