The Dakotas Region of the American Red Cross responded to a pair of apartment fires in North Dakota over the weekend that occurred in opposite parts of the state.
Late Saturday, May 17th, Red Cross volunteers provided lodging, comfort, and support to 9 families (14 individuals) displaced after an apartment fire in downtown in Dickinson. Each are receiving a place to stay, with others getting additional support with food and clothing.
Late on May 18th, the Red Cross responded to a residential fire in North Fargo, as three families were displaced due to a fire. Six people received emergency lodging and other immediate needs.
"Both of these events took families by complete surprise and we encourage families to practice an escape plan at least once a year," said Red Cross Regional Disaster Officer, Tom Tezel. "We certainly want to be there to support these families through the recovery process of these terrible disasters."
The Dakotas Region of the Red Cross responded to over 400 disasters last year, assisting a family every 19 hours.
