We are fortunate to have volunteers who will head out at a moment’s notice, no matter the hour, to help families in need.

The American Red Cross is helping 22 people – 14 adults and eight children – in six families after an early morning fire on Affleck Street in Hartford. A team of six Red Cross volunteers responded shortly before 4:00AM this morning to work with the displaced families. The Red Cross is providing the families with help for emergency housing, food and clothing needs. The children were provided stuffed animal toys.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

“We are fortunate to have volunteers who will head out at a moment’s notice, no matter the hour, to help families in need,” said Red Cross spokesperson Paul Shipman. “And we are grateful to the donors who provide us the resources to help,” Shipman added.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
