The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho responded today to an apartment fire in the 1700 block of Ashmount in Idaho Falls. Disaster volunteers were on the scene to assist 16 families who were evacuated because of the fire. Three apartments were destroyed. Health and mental health volunteers were called on. One tenant was critically injured and flown to Salt Lake City for treatment.
Power was out for the night, so Red Cross caseworkers provided funds for food, clothing and shoes to meet immediate needs for those who had lost everything, as well as a night’s stay in a local motel for seven of the families waiting for the power to be reconnected.
Client casework will continue today through the week to help families find housing and connect with those who can provide continuing services.
