Volunteers from all over Massachusetts came together on March 27 for a special day: a legislative briefing at the State House.
It was the first of such visits for many of the volunteers, who spent time walking the halls, stopping by offices to say hi to elected officials and their aides.
The afternoon kicked off with a visit with House Speaker Robert DeLeo, who welcomed Red Cross executives and volunteers.
Legislators and aides later stopped by a special presentation, co-sponsored by Sen. James E. Timilty and Rep. Carlo P. Basile, showcasing Red Cross programs and services.
“You guys are always there,” Timilty said. “The Red Cross is always there.”
Department heads surprised many people with the kinds of services provided by the Red Cross, and even wowed some volunteers.
The day ended with a special tour of the chambers, led by Rep. Brad Hill, taken by a group of delighted volunteers and staff members.
The afternoon kicked off with a visit with Speaker Robert DeLeo, who thanked the organization for all it does during times of disaster.
