Red Cross responds to Massachusetts Ave. Fire

The Red Cross is helping three adults and six children with meals, clothing and hotel accommodations.

The American Red Cross responded to a late night Monday house fire on Massachusetts Avenue, NW, in Roanoke City. The Red Cross is helping three adults and six children with meals, clothing and hotel accommodations. "Our first priority in any disaster is to get help to people as quickly as possible," said Amy Whittaker, Public Affairs director for the Red Cross. "We will continue working with the family to help them as they begin their road to recovery."

The Red Cross is the only agency that goes right to the scene of house fires to meet with families. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies solely upon monetary gifts from the community. You can help people affected by disasters like house or apartment fires, as well as countless crises at home and around the world, by making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters. They can be mailed to the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross at 352 Church Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016 or call 540-985-3535.
