The Red Cross Armed Forces Family Network Picnic will be held Thursday, May 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Riverside Park in Findlay, in the area near the volleyball courts. There is no cost for the picnic and reservations are not required but are suggested to 419-422-9322 ext. 1503 or firstname.lastname@example.org
“We look forward to the picnic every year,” says Executive Director Todd James. “Our Armed Forces Family Network members have a lot of fun and we usually have some new families join in the fun and become part of our network.” James says the picnic is an opportunity for the military families to relax and enjoy great food grilled onsite by Texas Roadhouse, games and fun for the family and fellowship with other military families who share similar challenges and joys in their lives.
Funding for meals and childcare for the Armed Forces Family Network is provided by a grant from Handbags That Help. Handbags That Help (HTH) is a local women’s giving circle formed in 2007 by a group of women committed to dramatically improving lives throughout the Greater Hancock County community by collectively funding significant grants to charitable projects.
Today’s military families – active duty, National Guard, Reserve and veterans – are spread across the United States. Many live far from military installations and the support services they offer – but few are far from a Red Cross chapter. The Red Cross addresses the unique characteristics of today’s military service members and their families, enabling and empowering military families to successfully prepare for, manage and transition through the challenges of military life.
The Red Cross Armed Forces Family Network meets the third Thursday of each month 6 p.m. at the Red Cross office, 125 Fair St. in Findlay. Free child care is available. For more information, call 419-422-9322, visit www.redcross.org/hancock or e-mail email@example.com.
