Red Cross volunteers assist about 60 families displaced by fire

Boston Regional fires left many displaced

Volunteers at the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts were busy last week, as fire touched the lives of hundreds in the region.

Responses started last weekend, with fires in Lowell, Beverly, Mansfield and Lynn – which resulted in a shelter opening. Fires continued throughout the week, affecting homes in Lynn, Dorchester, Everett and Tyngsboro.

Over the weekend, volunteers responded to blazes in Chelsea, Lawrence and Medford – helping meet the needs of more than 59 families and close to 200 people, in total, affected by disaster. Thank you to the donors who purchased the blankets, hotel stays, food, clothing and shoes to help these people begin their recovery.

Our volunteers are strong-willed and dedicated, but they can’t do it alone. Visit our volunteer page to start responding to disasters and helping those who need it.
