Red Wine. Red Rubies. Red Cross.

When financial times are tight, nonprofits have to be creative about how to recognize and attract donors. The Red Cross thinks jewelry and wine might do the trick for at least one giving segment. Tomorrow night J. Brown Jewelers showroom in Pikesville is hosting a ladies only and invitation only, celebration of the Red Cross Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders. From 5:30pm to 7:30pm the store will offer a sneak peek at their spring collection as well as offer wine tastings and pairings with WBAL radio’s Laurie Forster, host of the Sipping Point.

The Red Cross Tiffany Circle Society is a cadre of women leaders and philanthropists who invest $10,000 annually in their local American Red Cross. This event is a way to celebrate their giving commitment and introduce others to the group.

More than twice a day the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region provides basic needs to disaster victims such as emergency shelter, food, clothing and counseling to Maryland families after disasters thanks to major support from donors to the United Way campaigns in Maryland. Each day the Red Cross also provides lifesaving blood to area hospitals; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
