Shoemaker named to chapter board

Jefferson City Police Department Capt. Doug Shoemaker recently was named to the American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter Board of Directors.

Shoemaker has served with the Jefferson City Police Department since December 1991, when he was hired as a reserve officer while attending college at the University of Missouri at Columbia. Since that time, he has held various positions within the department

He currently serves as the special services/detective division commander for the department and coordinates all public information/media relations duties as well.

He holds a bachelor’s of arts degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in English literature with a minor in psychology and a master’s of science degree from the University of Central Missouri in criminal justice.

Shoemaker has instructed in a number of police-related topics for various agencies and currently serves as an adjunct instructor for Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He has been involved in a variety of community related events and fundraisers including the American Heart Association, the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital City, and the St. Mary’s Foundation.
