The Lakewood BlueClaws host the South Atlantic League All Star Games this year and one of their goals besides a win was helping out in our community. Jim DeAngelis, Director of Community Relations for the BlueClaws was interested in having the All Star players learn more about the impact from Superstorm Sandy that occurred just 7 months ago. Jim reached out to Red Cross requesting a community service project for today’s All Star players. The American Red Cross Jersey Coast Chapter was able to utilize the All Star players on 6/18/13 to help clean some of the many cots used within the multiple shelters that were opened in the aftermath of Sandy. Jersey Coast Chapter is proud to have the Lakewood BlueClaws as a community partner and appreciate the service, time, and commitment the players provided. This successful event was coordinated by Jim Deangelis, Debi Heptig, Jersey Coast Chapter’s Major Gift Officer, and Christopher Dempsey, Jersey Coast Chapter’s Disaster Response Coordinator. The All Star players who participated include: Walker Gourley, West Va. Pirates, Orlando Castro, West Va. Pirates, Dilson Herrera, West Va Pirates, Martin Dilsen, Augusta, Green Jackets, Matt Duffy, Augusta, Green Jackets, Jesus Galindo, Augusta Green Jackets, Levi Hyams, Rome, Atlanta Braves. Red Cross volunteers included Todd Van Es and Robert Hampe.
