Stark County Red Cross Thanks Local Radio Station

Radio fundraiser interview

The day was exceptionally warm and sunny, a perfect day to hold a fundraiser for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. A local radio-sponsored relief effort organized for the victims was held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame for an all-day event called, Canton Cares.

Local radio stations: Q92, AM 1320 WDPN, The Light 95.9FM, Mix 94.1 and News-Talk 1480 WHBC, hosted the event and broadcasted live on-site. The drive began at 5:30 a.m. and ran until 7 p.m., collecting monetary donations on behalf of the American Red Cross. Nonperishable food items and household goods were collected by the radio stations.

Additionally, the participating radio stations auctioned autographed items donated by music celebrities. The auctioned items consisted of an autographed Katy Perry tour jacket and a Maroon 5 guitar.

Expectations far exceeded anything anyone could have imagined. Donated goods filled more than three trucks with items like: blankets, clothing, baby food, hygiene products and other items. In addition, more than $17,000 was raised for the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross would like to thank the community and our local radio stations for making the event possible to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
