When disasters like hurricanes, floods and tornadoes strike, people of all ages are affected, including tiny infants forced from their homes with their neighbors.
When Hurricane Sandy came ashore along the eastern seaboard, one of the families impacted was the Todd Family from Catasauqua, Pennsylvania who took shelter in a Red Cross shelter in Bethlehem after losing power in their home. The family of four – including five-month-old Ethan – fled their home and in their rush forgot their baby’s formula. When they told the Red Cross shelter workers, one of them immediately drove to the supermarket and purchased formula for Ethan.
During a disaster, parents can lose everything—including items needed to keep their babies healthy in the aftermath. People can help supply infant supplies like cribs, formula, diapers and more with a donation of as little as $50 through the 2012 Red Cross Holiday Giving Catalog.
As part of the this year’s holiday season, people can support the work of the Red Cross by supporting the 2012 American Red Cross Holiday Giving Campaign. One way to take part is to shop the Holiday Giving Catalog. Folks can purchase a variety of symbolic gifts featured in the catalog. Their purchases come with greeting cards they can send to a friend or loved one, letting them know a donation has been made in their name to the Red Cross.
The purchase of each symbolic catalog gift item is a tax-deductible contribution and provides support to the mission of the Red Cross. The catalog gifts are contributions toward a Red Cross program area, not a donation to a specific project or item.
The American Red Cross thanks everyone who has supported its disaster relief operations this year and is grateful to all those who will remember people in need this holiday season with a donation to the.
