The Tompkins County Chapter of the American Red Cross will celebrate its recent move with an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Tompkins County Chapter office, 2 Ascot Place, Ithaca.
The public is invited to attend the Open House and tour the new facility that provides a professional atmosphere for Red Cross staff, volunteers and the public; a training room that allows for larger health and safety preparedness classes; ample storage space for training and disaster relief supplies; and a convenient location near The Shops at Ithaca Mall.
Refreshments will be served, and Tompkins County Chapter Executive Barry Stein will host a brief program at 5:45 to explain the benefits of the new facility, introduce special guests, and thank the people and organizations that helped with the late October move from the Chapter’s former office at 201 W. Clinton St., Ithaca.
“We moved the day that Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, and later that week volunteers from our Chapter were deployed to the greater New York City area to help with the recovery efforts,” Stein said. “We’re thrilled to be in this new facility, which is more conducive to the training that’s needed for our volunteers to be able to respond to all kinds of disasters from house fires in Tompkins County to major storms such as Sandy.”
“We invite the public to visit us on Feb. 13 and learn more about our disaster services, health and safety classes and all that the Red Cross has to offer,” Stein added.
Chapter volunteers from the Chapter’s Disaster Action Team, Blood Services, and Health and Safety programs will be available for interviews to discuss the services they provide Tompkins County residents.
