Hyannis, MA, January 19th, 2012 – The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter is pleased to announce that the Tupancy-Harris Foundation has supported the chapter with an additional generous grant in support of the Nantucket Preparedness Initiative, aimed at benefiting every resident on the Island.
This grant comes at a very opportune time as the winter is typically very busy for Red Cross volunteers. That is why the American Red Cross is continuously training new disaster volunteers to join the existing trained volunteers in place on the island led by Red Cross Zone Leader Reverend Georgia Snell.
The grant support from the Tupancy-Harris Foundation will help enable Red Cross volunteers to be trained and equipped with pre-positioned materials ready to operate disaster shelters and to be prepared for local emergencies if the need arises. For example, most recently, Nantucket volunteers helped a number of displaced individuals and families after an apartment flooding.
The Tupancy-Harris Foundation is administered by Fiduciary Trust Company in Boston. It annually makes grants to approximately 30 non-profit organizations which benefit Nantucket and its residents.
All disaster relief support provided by the American Red Cross is free of charge. The Chapter does not receive government funding. It is totally dependent upon local support from foundations, individuals and businesses.
