White Castle, Inc., Columbus-based creator of the world-famous “Sliders,” is inviting visitors to all of its 400+ stores to share the love with the American Red Cross in the run-up to Valentine’s Day. Beginning Sunday, February 1st and continuing through Saturday, February 14th, customers are invited to purchase Red Cross icons for $1, $3 or $5 in-store or at the drive-thru to display in White Castle locations, with the intent to “Turn White Castle Red for Valentine’s Day.”
Valentine’s Day is already a special occasion at White Castle. For over 20 years, White Castle has taken reservations and provided table service, linen tablecloths and candlelight to provide a romantic experience for its fans – or as they’re known to the chain – Cravers. In the weeks leading up to this special event White Castle will partner with the American Red Cross to “Turn White Castle Red for Valentine’s Day”, covering the walls of White Castle restaurants with Red Cross icons, from Sunday, February 1st through February 14th.
This year will be extra special when American Red Cross Ohio Buckeye Region CEO, Matt Bertram, joins White Castle’s top Columbus performer for a special “Slider Showdown” on Wednesday February 4, 2015, at 1:00 PM, where the two will go head to head to see who can make the most authentic White Castle Sliders in 10 minutes.
“At White Castle, we believe in feeding hunger, hope and dreams. We are honored to partner with the American Red Cross – an incredible group of people who feed hope every day, and show us all what it means to turn compassion into action,” says White Castle Vice President, Jamie Richardson.
Donations made through “Turn White Castle Red for Valentine’s Day” will fund critical programs of the American Red Cross, including disaster relief, emergency messaging facilitated by Service to the Armed Forces and Community Preparedness Education, among others. The mission of the Red Cross is carried out by a workforce that is made up of 94 percent volunteers, fueled by the generosity of donors.
During the course of the campaign, lunchtime donors will be celebrated as “Cravers of the Day.” “We’re delighted and honored to recognize the kindness of White Castle and their customers,” said Matt Bertram, CEO of American Red Cross Ohio Buckeye Region. “White Castle has been a wonderful partner in our work, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the way they’re ‘sharing the love’ with us this Valentine’s Day.” Red Cross representatives will visit random White Castle locations during the campaign, to meet customers who donate and capture their photos posting them social media sites as a thank-you.
