The Honorable Mayor Daniel M. Knapik of Westfield will raise the American Red Cross flag at the Westfield City Hall in honor of Red Cross Month. The flag will fly for the entire month of March.
The city of Westfield has a long history of support and cooperation with the American Red Cross. Red Cross Month is an excellent time to publicly declare that support by flying the Red Cross flag at City Hall.
In the spirit of collaboration and celebration, Westfield Gas and Electric, the Westfield Y.M.C.A, and the Westfield Boys and Girls club are working together to promote awareness of and raise money for the Red Cross Measles Initiative. The collaboration will help to provide measles inoculations, which will save thousands of lives in countries and villages all over the world. The flag raising will serve as a kick-off for the campaign.
Since 1943, the President of the United States has proclaimed March as "Red Cross Month." President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first Red Cross Month proclamation, recognizing the American Red Cross as a true reflection of the humanitarian and volunteer spirit and calling on Americans to “rededicate themselves to the splendid aims and activities of the Red Cross.”
