On May 8, American Red Cross chapters throughout the United States and 187 other Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies around the world will celebrate World Red Cross Red Crescent Day.

World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated each year, in honor of Henry Dunant, who founded the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement nearly 150 years ago.

Approximately 25% of American Red Cross volunteers identify themselves as age 24 or younger. Additional information about how youth can get involved to make a difference can be found online at www.redcrossyouth.org.

You can celebrate World Red Cross Red Crescent Day and help make an impact at home and overseas by:

  • Encouraging young people you know to volunteer time with the Red Cross;
  • Donating money or hosting a fundraiser for the Measles Initiative, saving young lives around the world; and
  • Giving blood regularly.
