WILDFIRE UPDATE: For the Doce Fire, Bicycle Fire, Yarnell Hill Fire, Dean Peak Fire and Shipman Fire, the American Red Cross distributed 60,226 meals and snacks, 39,853 bulk items and 328 comfort kits. It made 997 health services contacts and 623 mental health contacts, and it provided 331 overnight stays and processed 239 Safe and Well registrations. It utilized 685 personnel and 35 emergency response vehicles.
HONORING THE YARNELL 19: The Red Cross ran 38 hydration stations during the July 9 memorial at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley for the 19 firefighters killed June 30 while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire. The Red Cross distributed about 100,000 bottles of water to more than 25,000 people watching on TVs outside the arena, and it passed out tissues and sunscreen. It also had spiritual care teams on site.
EMERGENCY NEED FOR BLOOD: The Red Cross has an emergency need for blood and platelet donors. Red Cross blood donations were down 10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected. Please make an appointment to give as soon as possible to help ensure the Red Cross can continue to meet patient needs. SUMMER FUNDRAISER: The Grand Canyon Chapter has partnered with Fry’s Food Stores for “Fire Hurts, Red Cross Helps,” in which Fry’s will match financial donations dollar for dollar – up to $100,000. Donate at any of the 119 Fry’s locations in Arizona.
