To launch the Centennial Celebration marking 100 years of service to the San Gabriel Valley, the local Red Cross Chapter hosted a hands-only CPR training in Centennial Square, directly in front of Pasadena’s City Hall, on November 8. Four local mayors – Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson of Pasadena, Temple City Mayor Cynthia Sternquist, San Marino Vice Mayor Dennis Kneier and Monterey Park Mayor Anthony Wong – joined about 100 participants and organizers who spent their lunch hour learning how to administer life-saving aid from Red Cross instructors.

AMP Radio provided the music, and popular food trucks joined other exhibitors for the event, sponsored by Wescom Credit Union, who brought 30 of their own employees to learn.

The Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley is scheduling a series of special events to acknowledge this important 100 year anniversary.

This year’s Holiday Challenge Luncheon will be held on December 6, at the Sheraton Pasadena. The event is being hosted by the Chinese Club of San Marino and will focus on the Chapters’ centennial celebration.

Also on the calendar is “An Evening with Groucho” on February 5, 2014 at the Neher Auditorium. This will be a great night of comedy with Frank Ferrante who is billed as “the greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’s material.” All ticket sales will benefit the Red Cross.

Moving into 2014, through the month of March, the streets of Pasadena will be decorated with 100 street banners. And, festivities will be capped with a Centennial Gala on November 15. Details of this event will be forthcoming.
