PANDA RESTAURANT GROUP RECOGNIZED BY RED CROSS FOR DONATION TO WASHINGTON STATE MUDSLIDE VICTIMS
The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region presented a certificate of appreciation to the Panda Restaurant Group Inc. (PRG), parent company of Panda Express, for their generous donation in support of helping the victims of the Oso mudslide. Panda matched 100 percent of in-store and corporate donations from 69 stores in Washington State and nearby locations during March and April. The funds raised by Panda for the Red Cross totaled $41,066.04.
“Panda is always the first to help with disasters,” said Ben Green, CEO of the Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter. “They are most generous with their support and we appreciate them greatly.”
Donations collected and matched by Panda assisted the American Red Cross’ efforts to provide disaster victims with support, expertise and equipment. Hundreds of volunteers from the American Red Cross of Western Washington and other regions of the state spent days and nights in and around the mud-caked town of Oso in the aftermath of the ruinous landslide on March 22.
“With the loss of more than 40 community members, it is our job to help residents cope with the loss,” said Alex Rose, a Los Angeles Region Red Cross staff member who acted as Assistant Director of Operations for the Oso deployment. “We provided food, a warm and comfortable place to connect with friends and neighbors, assisted with burial costs, clothing and mental health services for the families.”
Donations, like the generous one from Panda, allowed Red Cross Disaster Relief to respond immediately to the landslide and the full range of needs it created.
