Red Cross to Host Babysitter's Training Day
The American Red Cross Babysitting Training course teaches babysitters the qualities parents seek in their child’s caregiver.

When parents look for someone to watch their children, they want a babysitter who is dependable and responsible; someone will take good care of their children. The American Red Cross Babysitting Training course teaches babysitters the qualities parents seek in their child’s caregiver.

Students age 11 and older can learn important babysitting skills by taking an online course or a classroom American Red Cross Babysitting Training course, which is being offered in August at two L.A. Region Red Cross locations - in Torrance and Santa Monica.

The Red Cross is offering a 20 percent discount on either the online or on-site course until the end of July. The Babysitter’s Basics online course, Babysitter’s Training classroom course and the classroom course with Pediatric First Aid/CPR are eligible for the discount using coupon code INDY200913 (case sensitive) when registering online at redcross.org/takeaclass or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS.

The course teaches babysitters how to:

Care for children and infants.

Be a good leader and role model.

Make good decisions and solve problems.

Keep the children and the sitter safe.

Handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents.

Write resumes and interview for jobs.

Safety is a key component of the course. Participants will learn how to safely get the word out that they are available to babysit. The course also covers what an individual should do before saying “yes” to watching someone’s children, and what not to do when babysitting.

COURSES FOR EVERYONE The Babysitting Basics online course is ideal for someone who wants to learn anywhere, at any time, going at their own pace. The course takes about four hours and features videos and interactive exercises, dozens of downloadable resources, and a printable diploma.

The classroom course includes training from Red Cross experts and more in-depth coverage of first aid topics. Students can take it with their friends or make new friends who also want to babysit. Students also have the option to receive a two-year certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR.
