One month after Typhoon Haiyan, the Red Cross continues to deliver relief supplies and humanitarian assistance to hard hit communities in the Philippines.
To support the relief efforts, from now through Christmas Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in and around Los Angeles will be collecting donations for the Typhoon appeal. Customers dining at KFC restaurants can donate to the American Red Cross at point of sale. One hundred percent of all donations collected will go to American Red Cross for Typhoon Haiyan Philippine relief.
The money donated is being used to purchase and distribute relief items such as food, blankets, hygiene kits, mosquito nets and to provide cash grants for use when markets begin functioning normally.
For example, an American Red Cross relief team is supporting the global Red Cross response in Tacloban, distributing tarps, water cans, mosquito nets and hygiene kits. As of December 9, the team has distributed relief items to approximately 44,000 people and distribution is ongoing.
The American Red Cross expects to make additional financial commitments to the typhoon response in the Philippines as donations come in.
If you are unable to visit a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, donations can be made by sending in a check to your local Red Cross chapter or by using the downloadable donation form on www.redcross.org to support a specific cause.
