Red Cross Helps 18 People After Waterbury Fire

The Red Cross is helping with emergency food and clothing needs.

WATERBURY, CONN., September 23, 2014 – The American Red Cross is helping 18 people – 10 adults and eight children in six families – with emergency food and clothing needs, as well as providing stuffed animal toys for the affected children, after a fire earlier today on Midfield Drive in Waterbury. All the affected families were able to make other housing arrangements.

Red Cross volunteers John Lennon, Amy Thomas, MJ deBourbon and Penny Barry responded to assist the families.

The Red Cross also provided blankets, water, snacks and comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
