BRIDGEPORT, CONN., SEPTEMBER 17, 2013 – The American Red Cross is responding to a multi-unit fire in Bridgeport at Putnam and Brook Streets. The fire broke out early Tuesday morning. Red Cross workers responded to the scene to provide hot beverages and food to first responders and residents displaced by the fire, who were kept warm in Greater Bridgeport Transit buses. The Red Cross is working with City of Bridgeport officials to support a shelter and client casework facility at a nearby school. “Red Cross workers have been on the scene for several hours and will work with Bridgeport officials to make sure residents’ needs are met and people have a safe, warm place to stay,” said Red Cross spokesperson Paul Shipman.
