On Wednesday, April 9, ACT for Alexandria, along with local businesses and nonprofit organizations, is hosting their fourth annual charity event – Spring2ACTion, Alexandria’s Giving Day. Spring2ACTion is a 24-hour online event where people can donate to various Alexandria nonprofit organizations including the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region.
Last year, 5,872 donors raised over $659,000 for 97 nonprofits. Spring2ACTion’s 2014 goal is to raise $1,000,000 for more than 100 Alexandria nonprofits.
Spring2ACTion is a unique event because with each donation given to a participating organization, that nonprofit also qualifies to earn additional money and prizes, making every donation that much more powerful. For example, the nonprofit with the highest number of unique donors wins a $5,000 grant, and the nonprofit with the most dollars raised wins a $5,000 grant.
“The American Red Cross mission is alive in Alexandria every day as we help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies,” said Jessica Adams, American Red Cross in the National Capital Region Community Executive for Arlington County and the City of Alexandria “By giving where you live, you make it possible for us deliver services to those in need following a fire or other disaster, train members of the community critical skills for how to save a life, and support members of the military and their families.”
Although the actual event is April 9, members of the community can start donating now by signing up to give and pre-register a donation that will be processed on April 9. Please visit the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region’s Spring2ACTion page to donate.
Another way to participate in Spring2ACTion and help the Red Cross is to become a Free Agent Fundraiser. Anyone can register and organize a fundraiser for the participating nonprofit of their choice and recruit others to help raise funds which will count towards the Spring2ACTion totals.
