Over 500 military, government, corporate and community leaders joined together in October to celebrate the historic relationship between the Red Cross and the military and their families and other Red Cross services in our community. Over $600,000 was raised for Red Cross services in the community.
Co-Chairs of the event were J.R. Clark, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs LLP and Donna Cooper, President, Pepco Region, Pepco Holdings, LLC and honorees were Secretary of the Army John McHugh, who is receiving the Lifetime of Service Award; Lt. Gen. Patricia D. Horoho, Surgeon General of the Army; the 2014 Tiffany Circle Distinguished Woman Warrior, Dr. Inga Guen, Exceptional Volunteer Award and the Honorable Charlene Drew Jarvis, Exceptional Service Award.
The NFL Chorus performed and brought the house down with their version of “Happy.” Making its debut at the Super Bowl in 2008, the chorus launched with more than 40 active and former players under the direction of Grammy Award winning artist, Donnie McClurkin.

““Thank you to everyone who was part of our Salute to Service Gala,” said Linda Mathes, CEO of the American Red Cross in the national Capital Region.
“We’ve heard from dozens and dozens of people who joined us that night that it was an absolutely magical evening. People laughed and cried and even danced in the aisles. The honorees, the volunteers, the men and women of the military and their families all touched our hearts and made us want to do more. And, we raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to turn into services for many men, women and children in our community. Watch the videos to see, hear and feel for yourself the powerful stories of people making a difference. I hope you will join us next year. Can we count on you? Thank you!!”
