The American Red Cross of Southwest Florida honored donors and supporters at a January 22, 2015 “Compassion in Action” cocktail reception held at the Northern Trust Building in Sarasota. Guest speaker, Luke Greeves, Executive Director of International Management & Planning for the Red Cross spoke to over 70 honored guests about the Red Cross’ work around the world and its involvement in some of the most important issues facing the world today.
Luke Greeves began his Red Cross career over 20 years ago as a volunteer disaster responder. Over the past two decades he has traveled to more than 75 countries; leading the organization’s programs for global health and disaster preparedness.
Luke spoke about the establishment of the Red Cross’ Measles & Rubella Initiative which has vaccinated more than one billion children over the past 13 years. He also talked of the global initiative to leverage emerging technology to support new humanitarian needs such as the recent Ebola outbreak.
