The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The mission statement speaks for itself. There is great power in volunteering. Walter Barlow (Savannah Country Day School), Autumn Bell (First Presbyterian Christian Academy), Keyana Boone (Bradwell Institute), Olivia Buelvas (Savannah Country Day School), Christopher Carswell (Southwest Academy), Denisha Green (Memorial Day School), Brittany Humphreys (Islands High School), Amaya James (Garrison School of Performing Arts), Sabria Jones (St. Vincent's Academy), Michael Maguire (Benedictine Military School), Patrick Maguire (Benedictine Military School), Jermaya Patterson (Savannah Country Day School), Noah Perez-Vergara (Savannah Christian Prep), Ashli Smith (Bradwell Institute), and Franklin Stevens (Oglethorpe Charter School) have all demonstrated this power in exemplary ways. Volunteer work comes from the heart and these young men and women have all showed just how big their hearts are by honorably choosing to give back to their community through volunteering at various non-profits and organizations within our area.
The Youth Heroes Breakfast, which was on April 11th 2014, is held annually to honor these super youth and one incredible mentor. From choir directing to sock collecting; we are proud to see such involvement from young people in their community and we know that they are future leaders in the making. We also know how important the adult roles are in these young people's lives and how positive influences can be the key to more youth volunteering. Cathy Hill (Georgia Power) was also honored for her helping hand by directing various non-profits and organizations. The Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross thanks these amazing heroes for contributions, time, and effort. We also look forward to the 2015 Youth Heroes Breakfasts in Brunswick Ga. (March 6th 2015), Statesboro Ga. (March 13th 2015), and again in Savannah Ga. (April 17, 2015)!
