Houston, Texas (March 3, 2014) – The American Red Cross will conduct disaster leadership training in Houston. The “2014 Texas Disaster Leadership Institute” will bring together American Red Cross staff and volunteers from across Texas to focus on disaster preparedness.
The Texas Disaster Leadership Institute is made possible by a $22,500 Good Neighbor Citizenship Grant from State Farm. The institute involves leadership development including intermediate and advanced level training to develop supervisors and managers throughout the state.
“We are grateful to receive such valued support from State Farm again this year. We appreciate their help to ensure our staff and volunteers are trained in specific disaster courses in order to build more resilient communities. We count on our staff to help fellow Texans and families across the country before, during and after disasters. The opportunity to conduct drills and have advanced disaster response courses available to Red Cross staff is critical to our preparedness efforts and meeting the needs of our communities,” said Steve Vetrano, Chief Executive Officer, Texas Gulf Coast Region, American Red Cross.
“As we’ve seen with countless hurricanes, floods, and other severe weather throughout Texas, disasters can strike at any time without notice. Training and preparation for these disasters is vital and can save lives,” said State Farm Spokesperson Patti Kelly. “State Farm is proud to support the Red Cross Leadership Institute and all of the work they do for our communities.”
More about the Texas Disaster Leadership Institute: State Farm has funded the American Red Cross Texas Disaster Leadership Institute since 2012. The institute offers classes and workshops in shelter management, successful delivery of disaster services and meeting the ongoing needs of disaster-affected communities. The goal of the institute is to continue to build on our strengths in Red Cross disaster leadership capacity and community preparedness.
