Tuesday, June 17, 2014 – The American Red Cross serving Greater Iowa announces a generous donation program at Casey’s General Stores. Customers will have the opportunity to give to the Red Cross at all Casey’s locations in Iowa, Nebraska and the Sioux Falls, SD area.
“We are so touched by the generosity of our partners at Casey’s General Stores,” said Leslie Schaffer, Regional Chapter Executive of the American Red Cross in Iowa. “Every dollar is needed, as thousands of people in the Midwest are struggling to recover.”
The American Red Cross is working around the clock to help people in the affected areas after Monday’s devastating tornadoes, high winds and flooding with shelters, food, water and supplies. The Red Cross has deployed two of its emergency response vehicles to distribute food and relief supplies and more are on alert.
Dozens of well-trained American Red Cross workers remain on the scene in hard hit northeast Nebraska towns, like Pilger, to help those affected by Monday’s tornadoes. An emergency shelter was opened to help residents impacted by the storm by offering a safe place to stay, meals and minor first aid.
Volunteers from the Northwest Iowa Area are providing assistance to more than 10 people displaced in a hotel fire in Storm Lake Monday night. This is in addition to overnight sheltering for more than 100 people in Cherokee, Rock Rapids and Rock Valley due to flooding in the area from Monday’s severe weather.
The Red Cross is able to respond quickly when emergencies like this happen with the help of corporations like Casey’s General Stores.
