It provides members with one-of-a-kind tools and resources for evaluating and improving their ability to withstand disaster, maintain operations, and protect lives and property, all in one place.

On December 6, the American Red Cross Southwestern Illinois Chapter will offer a free Ready Rating™ Lunch & Learn at Hortica in Edwardsville. Hortica is acting as host of the educational event, sponsored by The Junior Service Club of Edwardsville Glen Carbon.

The event at 1 Horticultural Ln, Edwardsville, IL, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Anyone who wishes to attend this event should call the Red Cross at 618-465-7704.

The Red Cross Ready Rating™ program is a free, self-guided program designed to help businesses, organizations and schools become better prepared for disasters and emergencies. Members determine their level of preparedness through an online self-assessment tool. They learn tips and best practices to help guide them through an emergency and how to help others become prepared as well. Members also receive the Ready Rating™ Membership Seal, making their efforts toward emergency preparedness more visible. Ready Rating™ can complement existing preparedness activities for those with safety plans already in place, or it can stand alone for those that are just getting started.

“Ready Rating™ is a great program,” said Robin Summers, the chapter’s Executive Director. “Not only is it free; it provides members with one-of-a-kind tools and resources for evaluating and improving their ability to withstand disaster, maintain operations, and protect lives and property, all in one place.”

Deane Adam, a regional specialist with the American Red Cross who works closely with the program, will facilitate the event. “I’m thrilled to be a part of helping the Edwardsville, Glen Carbon and surrounding communities enhance their preparedness,” Adam said.

A current Ready Rating™ member will also speak briefly on how their preparedness level has improved after becoming a member of the program.

The Red Cross is part of the “All Ready” campaign, a unified effort among emergency preparedness experts in the bi-state region that focuses on the importance of individual preparedness. The campaign encourages the three critical steps of preparedness: Make a plan, Get a kit, Be informed.

The American Red Cross Southwestern Illinois Chapter is a proud member agency of the United Way, which makes significant investments every year in Red Cross services.
