World Record Daredevil to Headline 2014 Evening of Stars

Central Illinois Red Cross, World Record Daredevil to Headline Evening of Stars Event

Starting as a circus performer at age two to world-renowned daredevil today, Nik Wallenda has achieved a number of “firsts”.  He will make his first appearance in Bloomington-Normal as the headliner for the 21st American Red Cross of the Heartland Evening of Stars event April 16.  The Evening of Stars is the largest fund-raiser to support local American Red Cross services, such as blood donation, disaster assistance and military family support. The event will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the Marriott in Uptown Normal.

Wallenda holds eight world records.  His most recent was in June, when he became the first person to cross the Grand Canyon on a wire.  He was completely untethered as the Discovery Channel broadcast the event live in 183 countries. In June 2012, Wallenda walked a wire directly over Niagara Falls, achieving another world record.

Wallenda is the seventh generation of Great Wallendas, a legendary high wire performing family. His biography “Balance: A Story of Faith, Family and Life on the Line” was released in June, chronicling the challenges and triumphs of his walk over Niagara Falls, as well as his life journey from circus performer to daredevil.

The April 16 event will feature Wallenda speaking about never giving up in pursuing one’s dreams.

“We are thrilled to bring Nik Wallenda to Bloomington-Normal to support American Red Cross services,” said Vicki and Tim Tilton, Owners of Fox & Hounds at The Monroe Centre who will serve as co-chairs of the 2014 Evening of Stars. “Bloomington-Normal has a rich history of circus aerial performers who spent time here in our community.   We are looking forward to meeting Nik and introducing him to our community.”
