The Hawaii Red Cross continues its response to the residential fire that occurred at the Marco Polo high-rise on Friday afternoon.

The Red Cross emergency shelter at Iolani School had over 110 registrants from Friday to Saturday.  It remained open throughout Saturday evening with no population.  Shelter residents were provided with recovery resources before returning back to their units as they were cleared by officials.

Red Cross caseworkers were at the emergency shelter site yesterday (Saturday) from 1pm to 5pm and will be at the site again today (Sunday) from 9am to 5pm to initiate casework in providing assistance with immediate emergency needs as well as referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process.

As of Saturday, over 800 meals and snacks were provided by Red Cross canteen services to first responders and affected residents.  Over 120 Red Cross health services contacts were made by volunteers, including assistance in refilling medical prescriptions and caring for infant and elderly residents.  Over 250 mental health contacts were made by volunteers to provide emotional support in helping residents begin the process of recovering after this disaster.

Residents are encouraged to visit to register on the Red Cross Safe and Well website, a secure and private way that friends and family connect.
